Dental X-Rays

As part of our comprehensive approach to oral health, we offer state-of-the-art digital dental X-rays, also known as digital radiographs. These radiographs are a valuable tool that allows us to gain a deeper understanding of your dental health and provide precise, tailored treatments to enhance your smile.

Benefits of Dental X-Rays

Dental X-rays offer a range of benefits that help us accurately diagnose and effectively treat various dental conditions. By capturing detailed images of your teeth, gums, and supporting structures, we can identify hidden issues, evaluate the overall health of your mouth, and develop personalized treatment plans. Here are some key benefits of dental X-rays:

  • Early detection of dental problems: X-rays enable us to detect dental issues in their early stages, such as cavities, infections, gum disease, and bone loss. Early intervention can prevent further damage and the need for more extensive treatments.
  • Comprehensive evaluation of your oral health: X-rays provide a comprehensive view of your teeth and jaw, allowing us to assess the alignment of your bite, the condition of your tooth roots, and the presence of any impacted teeth or abnormalities.
  • Tailored treatment planning: With the help of X-rays, we can accurately plan and execute various dental procedures, including fillings, root canals, orthodontic treatments, and implant placements. This ensures precise and effective treatment outcomes.
  • Monitoring of oral health changes: Regular X-rays allow us to monitor any changes or developments in your oral health over time, enabling us to adjust our treatment approach accordingly.

How Often Should I Get X-Rays?

The frequency of dental X-rays varies depending on factors such as your age, oral health history, and specific dental concerns. In general, we recommend getting X-rays as part of your comprehensive dental exam, which typically occurs every 6 to 12 months. However, some patients may require X-rays more frequently, especially if they have a higher risk of dental issues or are undergoing specific treatments. During your visit, our dental team will assess your individual needs and recommend an appropriate X-ray schedule for you.

What To Expect

During the X-ray procedure, we will position a small digital sensor or film in your mouth to capture the images. You may be asked to bite down gently on the sensor or hold it in place while the X-ray is taken. Rest assured that the process is painless and quick, allowing us to capture accurate images with minimal discomfort.

Some x-rays are taken extra-orally meaning there is no sensor inside the mouth. Examples of these type of x-rays are called either a Panorex or a cone beam x-ray. These types of x-rays can assist in assessing large structures of the dentition, jaw, and head and neck area. These images allow for the dental professional to see the mouth in a more detailed way and also provide an option for patients with severe gag reflexes or who are otherwise unable to have intra-oral x-rays taken.

Once the X-rays are obtained, our dentist will review the images and discuss the findings with you. We will explain the current state of your oral health, address any concerns or areas of focus, and develop a personalized treatment plan if necessary. Your participation and understanding are important to us, so feel free to ask any questions or seek clarification on anything discussed during your visit.
